Zurich Airport, which is also known as Kloten Airport, is the largest and busiest in Switzerland serving approximately 170 destinations worldwide. It’s located around 11 kilometres north of the centre of Zurich which is easily reached by taking the A51 motorway and it’s also very well connected by road to the rest of Switzerland making it a very practical choice of destination airport. There are a number of towns and villages in its immediate vicinity including Winkel, Oberglatt and Opfikon, all of which would make very pleasant places for a short visit.
There’s a great mixture of old and new in Zurich with narrow winding streets in the older parts, as well as exciting and vibrant areas that are being transformed into modern centres of creativity and culture. For the old, visit the Fraumünster 13th century cathedral which is famous for its stunning stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall - and for the modern head for Züri-West which is the centre of the city’s exciting nightlife. Hiring a car from Zurich will also mean you’ll be able to visit nearby Uetliberg which has many walking trails and Winterthur which is famous for its museums.
