Zurich is a city that regularly features on lists of the best places to live in the world and is also a fantastic place to visit. As Switzerland’s wealthiest city, it is home to many major banks and financial institutions, and is both very stylish and very vibrant both in terms of culture and entertainment. It may be a very modern city but much of the old Zurich has also been preserved and the Aldstadt in the centre has narrow lanes and medieval buildings. For a complete contrast, hire a car and head for Zuri-West – the ultra-contemporary area that is at the heart of the city’s nightlife.
Zurich’s oldest church is St Peter’s, where you can not only see the original foundation walls from the 9th century, it also has the widest clock face in Europe - measuring fully 8.7 metres in diameter. The city is also home to a very well-known zoo which has no less than 360 different animal species, many of which can be seen in its 13,000 square yard re-creation of a tropical rainforest complete with treetop walkway. Hiring a car in Zurich means that you’ll also be able to explore Uetliberg, the mountain that towers almost 3,000 feet above the city and offers some truly spectacular views.
