Seville is the largest city in southern Spain. It is the capital of the region of Andalucia and stands 75 miles north of the coast at Cadiz. If you hire a car in Seville you’ll find it is a large, lively city spanning the Guadalquivir River. It’s the fourth-largest city in Spain and has one of the largest collections of historic landmarks. It also has a good road system. The centre may be a web of narrow streets but the main roads along the river banks and the loose ring road around the city help drivers avoid the worst of the jams.
Seville is famous for flamenco and oranges. With car rental in Seville, you’ll soon be able to find a venue where flamenco is being played and danced. And the oranges? They grow freely along many tree-lined streets. Seville is also the city of Carmen, Don Juan and Figaro, so expect culture and colour in equal measure. The streets are particularly lively after dark. During the day there are plenty of sights to see; most are grouped in the historic old quarter. Look out for the Giralda minaret dating back to the Arab occupation, the enormous gothic cathedral and the Alcazar Palace, a World Heritage Site that is an ancient Moorish citadel and garden.
