Nuremberg International Airport is just three miles away from the South German city centre. If you hire a car from Nuremberg Airport you’ll find the city is only a few minutes’ drive away with good road connections: the A3 motorway passes less than a mile from the end of the runway, linking to Erlangen and Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, as well as other motorways radiating from Nuremberg, the A73 and A6. Visiting Nuremberg provides an interesting mix of traditional Bavaria and the more modern take on big business, with companies like Siemens being based in the area.
Nuremberg is a long way from the sea but stands along the Pegnitz River and the Rhine-Main-Danube canal. If you pick up a hire car at Nuremberg Airport you’ll find most of the sights and facilities are within the city’s inner ring road. Highlights here include the medieval Handwerkerhof area of craft shops, restaurants and the popular Museum of Toys. The region is also known for its seasonal cuisine including the delicious Nürnberger Lebkuchen, a kind of gingerbread. Other sights to look out for while spending time in Nuremberg include the Tiergarten Zoo and the Industrial Museum.
