Since 71AD when the Romans founded it, York has been of huge importance in the history and heritage of the United Kingdom. With its ancient wall surrounding the Old Town and its historic architecture, you may have to pinch yourself to be reminded that you haven’t gone back in time. A stroll along the streets though, past the designer shops and artisan cafes will do that for you. York really does offer a little bit of everything and is also surrounded by some glorious traditionally English towns and villages, so why not try hiring a car and exploring the North Yorkshire area.
The Old Town of York provides a multitude of options for tourists. Take a stroll round and you’ll see that the majority of the buildings remain relatively untouched since medieval times. The standout structure in the whole of the city is without doubt York Minster. This colossal Gothic Masterpiece took over 250 years to build and is more than 800 years old, a must see for anyone in the area. Also located in North Yorkshire, a short drive west is the gorgeous spa town of Harrogate. We recommend renting a car and heading out for a day of relaxation at Harrogate Turkish Baths and Health Spa.
