You’ll find the town of Farnborough in northeast Hampshire (often shortened to ‘Hants’). If you hire a car in Farnborough you’ll be able to explore the old town, its near-neighbour Aldershot, and some of the surprisingly green countryside around Hants and Surrey to the southwest of London. Farnborough stands just south of the M3 motorway, which can lead you up to the M25 London orbital, road or down to the south coast at Southampton. Major attractions like Windsor Castle and LEGOLAND are just a short drive to the north. To the south, look out for classic English stately homes like Loseley Park and Clandon Park.
With local car rental you’ll soon find that you’re in part of a small urban spread that includes Farnborough and Aldershot. Aldershot is famous for its connections with the army and there’s a military museum there. Farnborough however, is renowned for its links to aviation. The Farnborough Air Show is a major biennial event every other July (on years ending with an even number). You’ll spot a prototype jet aircraft on display in the middle of one of the town’s roundabouts. Look out also for the town’s Air Sciences Museum, housed in the former headquarters of the Royal Engineers Balloon School.
