The small city of Bath stands in the valley of the River Avon within a circle of hills. The attractive rolling hills to the north lead into the famous scenic Cotswolds district. The region also has great transport links; the A46 leads from Bath, north towards the M4 motorway. If you have a hire car in Bath you’ll find it’s a fairly compact city, but with steep hills in all directions, a car will save you from uphill walks. The Roman Baths are the region’s number one attraction but don’t miss the modern Thermae Spa too - it has a fabulous rooftop pool overlooking the city. Elsewhere try wandering round the Georgian terraces, alleys, crescents and towers for a taste of Bath’s 18th-century heyday.
