The small city of Bath stands in the valley of the River Avon within a circle of hills. The attractive rolling hills to the north lead into the famous scenic Cotswolds district. Bath car hire provides you with the means to explore this compact town, as well as its larger nautical neighbour Bristol, just 12 miles to the west. The region also has great transport links; the A46 leads from Bath, north towards the M4 motorway. The Somerset and Wiltshire countryside around Bath is renowned for its pretty valleys, ancient stone cottages, attractive market towns, like Bradford-on-Avon and Frome, and pretty villages like Lacock and Castle Combe.
Bath is a World Heritage Site and a very popular tourist destination, yet it’s a mix of old country town and chic visitor destination. Look out for traditional wood-panelled pubs alongside celebrity chef restaurants, and market stalls next to designer boutiques. If you have a hire car in Bath you’ll find it’s a fairly compact city, but with steep hills in all directions, a car will save you from uphill walks. The Roman Baths are the region’s number one attraction but don’t miss the modern Thermae Spa too - it has a fabulous rooftop pool overlooking the city. Elsewhere try wandering round the Georgian terraces, alleys, crescents and towers for a taste of Bath’s 18th-century heyday.
