The city of Valencia stands roughly halfway down Spain’s eastern coast. It is a large city, Mediterranean port, and historic regional centre. In recent years it has become a tourist destination too. If you hire a car at Valencia Airport you’ll be able to explore all these sides to Spain’s third largest city. The airport itself is six miles west of the centre, right next to the A3 motorway that links Valencia to Madrid. The A7 that heads north to Barcelona is nearby. It’s easy to get into Valencia itself and explore the countryside of La Huerta and neighbouring coastal resorts too.
If you hire a car at Valencia Airport you’ll soon see that the city now has all the ingredients to attract visitors. As well as sandy beaches, there’s a two-mile Paseo Maritimo promenade. Drive along it, admiring the lively street-life, sea views and palm-fringed pavements. Spot celebrities’ yachts in the Royal Marina. The Old Town is packed with restored landmarks and narrow streets of shops, restaurants and galleries. And don’t miss the City of Arts and Sciences, a modern complex of leisure attractions including cinemas and an aquarium.
