The city of Valencia is a major port for cargo and passenger ships. It’s the Mediterranean’s biggest container port. But with car rental in Valencia you’ll also find it’s a major regional business, cultural and tourism centre too. The city stands on the coastal strip about halfway down Spain’s eastern shore, facing the Balearic Islands. Valencia is the country’s third-largest urban area. All that important port traffic means that the road system has to be good.
If you have a hire car in Valencia you’ll be able to tour the Old Town and the waterfront attractions too. Start at the two-mile-long Paseo Maritimo, a wide promenade lined with palm trees and a golden sand beach. A short drive away is the Royal Marina. It’s a good spot to spy on millionaires’ super yachts from pavement cafes. Inland is the Old Town. This is where you’ll find historic landmarks including the cathedral and silk market. Further out of town explore the futuristic complex called the City of Arts and Sciences. It’s designed by celebrated local architect Santiago Calatrava and includes museums, music venues, cinemas and a huge aquarium.
