The city of Munich stands in the far south east of Germany. It is Germany’s third largest city and the capital of the surrounding Bavaria region. If you hire a car at Munich Airport the city itself is just 12 miles south; an easy drive via the nearby A92 motorway, which joins the Munich ring road motorway, the A99. Munich Airport is sometimes called Munich Franz-Josef-Strauss, Freising Airport (after its closest town) or Flughafen Munchen by the locals, and provides travellers with access to the beautiful Bavaria region, full of scenic drives and plenty of activities in the local towns and cities.
If you pick up Munich Airport car rental you’ll find most of the attractions and sights lie within the circle of the city’s A99 ring road. It’s a large centre for shopping, restaurants and culture with plenty to see too. Explore the three main public squares at the city’s heart: Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz and Konigsplatz, the latter of which forms part of the city’s impressive cultural quarter. Nearby, the baroque Nymphenburg Palace is set in stunning formal gardens; look out too for the acclaimed Pinakothek Art Gallery. The exciting Deutsches science museum stands on an island in the Isar River, and the twin-towered Frauenkirche Cathedral serves as the iconic landmark of the city.
