Frankfurt is Germany’s fifth largest city and stands in the central western part of the country, just under 350 miles west of Berlin. It forms the centre of the densely-populated Rhine-Main region and stands either side of the Main River. If you hire a car in Frankfurt you’ll discover it’s a big, thriving urban centre for business, culture, education and tourism. You’ll be able to tour the city attractions and escape to outlying sights, like the rolling Taunus Mountains to the northwest or the enormous Frankfurt City Forest to the south.
Frankfurt is known as one of the world’s most important financial centres but there’s a lot more to see than just banking offices. If you rent a car in Frankfurt, you’ll discover it’s a city with a great selection of wonderfully restored historic buildings. Highlights include the 15th-century Rathaus city hall, the distinctive red stone gothic cathedral and St Paul’s church, the site of Germany’s first-ever Parliament. There are modern attractions too: an array of impressive skyscrapers and acclaimed examples of contemporary architecture. Don’t miss the 56-storey Main Tower - the observation deck at the top has stunning views across the city.
