Cannes is arguably the most famous, and most glamorous, town of the French Riviera. A lot of this has to do with the film festival that’s held here in May each year and which attracts the world’s biggest stars. Beneath all the glitz and glamour of the “festival” Cannes there is a traditional fishing town with an old quarter and, although it has more than its fair share of very expensive restaurants, there are plenty of reasonably-priced places near the port serving the very freshest fish and seafood.
The best way to explore Cannes is probably on foot as you admire the expensive sports cars cruising by. If you take a stroll down the Promenade de la Croisette on one side you’ll have a long sandy beach and on the other there are exclusive shops bars and restaurants. Further in from the sea there are many grand 19th century villas to admire. Then head up to Le Suquet which is the oldest part of Cannes with great views over the harbour. Hiring a car in Cannes also means that you’ll be able to explore the whole Riviera and even take a trip to Monaco which is just an hour’s drive away.
