Liverpool Airport is around eight miles from the city centre of Liverpool. The full name of the airport has been Liverpool John Lennon Airport ever since 2001, in honour of the famed member of The Beatles – arguably the city's most famous export. When you are checking in, look out for the seven foot high statue of the star in the departures terminal and look above you to see the words “Above us, only sky” painted on the ceiling. These words were chosen as the airport’s motto as they are taken from one of Lennon’s best-known songs, “Imagine”. To take in this popular city, renting a car from Liverpool Airport will allow you to explore the beaches, wildlife parks and culture hotspots that Merseyside has to offer.
Liverpool has a great deal for the visitor to enjoy, including art galleries such as Tate Liverpool, which specialises in modern art, as well as having frequently-changing temporary exhibitions, and the more traditional Walker Art Gallery, where you’ll find works by Rembrandt, Turner and Hogarth. Rent a car from Liverpool Airport and you’ll also be able to visit one of the most popular attractions in the North West, Knowsley Safari Park. Here you can drive round enclosures with baboons, tigers, lions, camels and wildebeest and there are many other animals you can also walk round and see on your visit.
